Virgin Islands International Movers

If you plan to live in the town of Virgin Islands, near the port town of Charlotte Amalie, plan your move carefully before jumping on a plane to the island paradise. If you are a U.S. continental travels to an island for the first time, you should consider several factors before taking the plunge. Think about how you will define the way in Island life, how you will make a life and movement to half island.

Step 1

Travel diary of St. Thomas before making the commitment to carry. Spend time control of the local life and culture. Living on an island can be very different than I imagined, if you have not spent much time in one.

Step 2

Visit the local shops when you are in St. Thomas, and to investigate the difference between the cost of living. You may be shocked when the price of staples such as milk is about $ 7 a gallon - more than double what it costs in most of Continental stores. Visit the electricity companies and ask the average cost, as the water service, electricity and telephone. You will find that you pay almost 30 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity and will have to buy a truckload of water at home, which can cost hundreds of dollars every time you are running out.

Step 3

Search for local advertising for rental on the island. It is common to pay between $ 800 and $ 1000 per month for an apartment. A room can cost about $ 1500. Two or more rooms range from $ 1200 to $ 5000 per month, depending on the status and location. Do not be surprised to discover that most of the rental property is a part of another house where the owners live. You can have it on top of the house of another family, or part added on built on the back of the property.

Step 4

Submit your articles on a boat in St. Thomas Once you have decided to take the plunge and have a place to stay. Put important items, including your car, in a shipping container. Find businesses dealing with transport containers and boxes in the Virgin Islands. Most items shipping by air is not feasible. If you can pack in boxes of possessions, sent by the U.S. Postal Service and save money.

Step 5

Get a job before you arrive. Finding work in St. Thomas is easy if you're ready to work. You can find a job in the tourism industry as a waiter, barman, a companion on a charter boat or any other type of hospitality position. If you are looking for something more professional, it can be difficult. There is less demand for these jobs, and many professional positions pay up to one third less than the same work on the continent.

Virgin Islands, a group of about 100 small islands, West Indies E of Puerto Rico. The islands are divided politically between the United States and Great Britain. While forming the westernmost part of the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands form a geological unit with Puerto Rico and the Greater Antilles, they are of volcanic origin, covered with limestone. The islands are sometimes subject to severe hurricanes between August and October, and suffer from light earthquakes. The water supply is almost entirely dependent on rainfall and is stored in tanks, water also comes from desalination plants. The tropical climate with its cool northeast trade winds, and the picturesque islands, enhanced by their Old World architecture, has encouraged a large tourist trade. The population is predominantly of African descent and the main religion is Protestantism. English and Spanish and Creole are spoken.

Islands were the first Europeans visited when Columbus landed on St. Croix, 1493.
